To pose a Challenge for your Network or Space, follow the steps below.
- From the Content Creation menu, click Start a Challenge.
-
On the next page, pick either the General Challenge Template or the Impact Challenge Template, then click Start.
For a more advanced template that outlines the problem at-hand, defines the possible impact the problem has, and provides expectations that management might have for the Challenge, pick the Impact Challenge Template.
To Create a General Challenge
For a quick start using a free-form template for general problem-solving purposes, use the General Challenge Template.
- Enter a title and description, and add at least three (3) tags to the challenge.
- Select a space or spaces, or people, to share the challenge with.
- Select either Network or Private as the publication option. Network means that anyone on your network can propose a solution for the challenge while Private means that only those invited to the challenge can propose solutions.
- By default, the network you own is the challenge sponsor. Uncheck the Display the network name as the sponsor box if you want to display your username as the sponsor instead.
- You may set additional options for your challenge. These include attaching files or references, adding an avatar, collaborators and sponsors, and setting a deadline for the challenge by clicking the appropriate buttons at the bottom.
- Once you have completed up the challenge template, click Start to immediately set your challenge going. If you are not yet ready to start the challenge, click Save.
To Create an Impact Challenge
For a more advanced template that outlines the problem at-hand, defines the possible impact the problem has, and provides expectations that management might have for the Challenge, pick the Impact Challenge Template.
- Enter a title, then define the challenge by entering the problem that needs to be addressed. This is a high-level statement and should not include too much detail. You will include the details in the later steps below.
- On the Affects box, enter the areas affected by the problem.
- On the Impacts box, include the details of the problem, e.g. loss in revenue and increased manpower requirements.
- Click the Requirements button, and enter the requirements that will address the problem areas and details mentioned in Steps 2 and 3.
- Add at least three (3) tags to the challenge, and select a space or spaces, or people, to share the challenge with.
- Once you have completely filled up the challenge template, click Start to immediately set your challenge going. If you are not yet ready to start the challenge, click Save.
Things to Remember
Draft the Challenge or problem statement with the Space audience in mind. Keep in mind that you need to both convince management to provide resources and recruit collaborators. You contextual description or statement should include the following:
- A brief description of the problem
- Where the problem is occurring
- The size or magnitude of the problem
Avoid the tendency to write a too simple problem statement because you are already familiar with it. Stimulating participation from your network or space members will go a long way towards making your challenge successful in proposing acceptable solutions to the problem.
