Advanced Board Analytics offers managers the same insights needed to make fact-based decisions on the performance of members within a Board, with one exception: with the data available in Advanced Board Analytics, they are able to determine how work is flowing through their project.
Understanding how work is flowing through your project is crucial to understanding your team's project dynamics, allowing your team to push through obstacles by properly identifying issues blocking their path and taking the appropriate countermeasures. When a team is able to resolve problems in a satisfactory manner, they are able to maintain their momentum and keep the project flowing smoothly.
Managers, and optionally Board members, call Board Analytics from the Board's More Options menu.
By default, Basic Board Analytics is shown on the page. Click the Advanced tab in the middle of the Board Analytics page to display the Advanced Board Analytics page.
The topmost section is the Cumulative Flow Diagram (CFD), which is a visual representation of your Board's card flow. Your Board's CFD provides a quick, visual insight into your Work in Progress (WIP). With a glance at your CFD, you can determine how much work has been completed and the process bottlenecks that are hindering work completion within your system.
Your Lists are displayed on the left. In the middle and to the right is the flow diagram itself, showing the progress through your system of the different cards on your Board. You can analyze how your team is performing by filtering for the type of content and analyzing the flow related to each type of content.
You may set the duration of the data shown on the diagram by clicking the Duration calendar and selecting the date range to be covered in the diagram.
At the bottom are your Continuous Improvement Metrics, which measures the average duration of your your Work in Progress, Queue, Blocker, Lead Time, Cycle Time, and Throughput.
Work in Progress refers to the total amount of work you are committed to doing but have not completed. In short, this refers to the number of unfinished cards on your Board.
Queue refers to the wait time of your cards in between stages, or your Lists. By limiting time spent in queues, you are assured that your team is smoothing the kinks and proceeding with the work as planned.
Blocker refers to a process, or card, in your workflow that is not moving as it waits on a dependency to proceed. With Blocker, you are given the cue to look at the problematic card and apply the necessary remedial measures.
Lead Time is the total time, or duration, spent working on the project. This metric allows you to set future work deadlines more accurately, as it gives you insights on how to fast-track your project along based on prior experience.
Cycle Time is commonly confused with Lead Time, as both are similar in some aspects. What separates the two is that, with cycle time, you are more concerned with delivering project output. Lead Time, on the other hand, has more to do with how and what you need to do is speed up your process.
Lastly, we come to Throughput, which averages the number of units processed over a period of time. Taken in conjunction with lead time and cycle time, throughput allows you to get a clearer picture of your workflow.
Managers may allow Board members to view Board Analytics by enabling the Enable Analytics Access Right for Member from the Manage Board page.
